What makes us your best choice for music lessons?
1. We understand what you need
You need a good teacher, a good learning environment, and a musical instrument (new or used) that functions well. All three are necessary to provide the best outcome and we can provide all three. If you don't currently have an instrument to start on, you can rent an instrument from a local music store or from us for a piano so you can try lessons before buying an instrument and the money paid for the rental goes towards a purchase.
2. We Teach Students of All Ages
We have students from 4 years old to many students in their 50's - 70's and beyond. Our teachers are patient as well as motivating. An adult student need never fear that they can't do the work. We take care to teach what you want to learn at the pace you want to take it so your music lessons are rewarding whatever your age or experience.
3. We Provide Both Private and Group Lessons
We believe private lessons best ensure that a student has the undivided attention of the teacher and can progress at a pace suited to them individually so concepts and musical techniques are best understood. However, group lessons are fun and very important in teaching timing and rhythm. In order for a group to be successful they quickly learn they must cooperate with each other - it is not a competition like sports. We generally recommend piano students start private lessons after the age of 5. We have taken students even at age 4, but this is rare. Usually children are not ready until after age 5, but there is no age limit when you can start. We have had children start at age 13 and complete their grade eight within 3 years! We currently have a student who started well into his seventies and is having a blast! You may start lessons at any time of the year. Simply contact our office to see which times and days are available.
4. Theory Classes
Classes are available to prepare for exams in all levels of theory, history, harmony, counterpoint, and analysis as well as classes in composition and arranging.
5. Exam Preparation
We offer full training in repertoire, studies, technique, ear training and sight reading to prepare students for Royal Conservatory examinations or Conservatory Canada examinations to qualify for high school credit. However, most of our students choose to learn their instrument for enjoyment only and do not take exams. Let us know when you enroll if you want to take exams so we can fully prepare them for any level of testing.
6. Qualified Teachers
Our instructors are highly qualified and have performance experience. Most importantly, our instructors strive to teach according to the needs and learning style of the student for maximum progress. Some people learn visually - others aurally. Knowing how a student learns can help in the process. We have also been able to alert parents to many learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, because of the one on one attention students receive.
7. Regular Recitals
Recitals are held at least twice a year. These provide students with performance experience, an opportunity to share with family, to learn from other students, and to build confidence. Participation in music festivals, competitions, and workshops is also available.
