About us - Plumb Pianos
This small business was born in 1989 when Paul - the Plumb on this website - was driving by a tiny 250 sq. ft. shop in Talbotville, Ontario each day to tune pianos in St. Thomas, Ontario.
Talbotville is one of those places where two highways meet along with a few people and a small community develops. When I arrived there, there was a restaurant, a variety store... which included the post office, a gunshop in part of a home, and an auto repair shop which also sold a few cars. Total population under 100 people.
There was a sign in the window of this little shop saying "For Rent", and after driving by it for many weeks I finally decided that it wouldn't hurt to at least ask how much and was shocked to find out that it was only $200. per month. Thinking that perhaps this could provide opportunities to expand my services - with much trepidation I plunked down the $200 and moved in.
After reconditioning and refinishing a few old pianos for people
in St. Thomas and area it dawned on me that perhaps I could also sell some pianos. With that the business card had to be changed and Paul Plumb Pianos was born. Great name for a percussive piano proposition, eh?
Anyway, the piano business is very interesting - at least if you are so inclined and 99% of the experience has been positive and wonderful. While there doesn't appear to be much to know when it comes to tuning and repairing pianos, when you learn more about pianos and the piano business it's like the tip of an iceburg. Some of what I have learned I will share on this website for all to gain some insight.
Most people haven't the foggiest idea what goes on inside a piano and Plumb Pianos is about helping people - particularly the average family without a huge budget.
This business is built on the golden rule and I feel it is an privilege to serve you. That's important in any business and perhaps more so in the piano business because people know very little about pianos and the trust factor is needed. So I hope this website will help you when you purchase a piano.
